Description

FILMMAKERS IN ATTENDANCE – The Mass Reality Check is a college doc shorts showcase for college and university students and recent graduates working in short documentary and experimental documentary film. Every student whose film is selected to screen at Salem Film Fest 2015 will receive an all-access pass to the festival and a jury of our sponsors will award one filmmaker “Best Short.” Programming staff from Salem Film Fest and representatives from the LEF Foundation, Documentary Educational Resources and The Independent, will meet individually with the Mass Reality Check winner after the festival to give them advice about filmmaking as a career and provide insights into funding, distribution as well as other professional considerations.

Free Admission.  Tickets will be available at the Salem Film Fest table at PEM 15 minutes in advance on a first-come, first-served basis.

BETWEEN NOW AND FOREVER
Directed by Pauline Hevia
A non-fiction short film about the likelihood of extraterrestrial life in parallel to human existence, based on the article ‘Are We Alone in the Universe?’ by Paul Davies.

ANIMAL COMMUNICATION
Directed by Megan Haggerty
Three animal communicators talk about and demonstrate their work.

BROKEN SOIL
Directed by Gabrielle Urbonaite and Thomas Harkey
Three Ukrainians in Boston: a priest, a college student, and a family man who fled Crimea, all share their perspectives on what it means to be far away from home as they watch their country go through a major conflict.

CURLEY: A HISTORIOPHOTY BY BILLY PALUMBO
Directed by Billy Palumbo
Just as James Michael Curley challenged and redefined the dominant politics of early 20th century Boston; just as Curley’s legacy has been simplified and sanitized; just as history in general blunts and sculpts facts to meet an end; this film challenges narrativization, chronology, linearity, and objectivity in history-telling not in a quest for truth but a quest for questions.

THE PROVIDER
Produced by Kelly Waldo
A film that follows a traveling abortion doctor and examines the restrictive access of abortion in the state of Texas.

TWO-STROKED: A LOVE STORY
Directed by Jacqui Carriere
Come along for the ride with Jacqui, Lucian, and the Uglies from Lucky 2 Strokes as they show you their wonderful/horrible world of mopeds.

INVISIBLE SISTER
Directed by Jaime Rogers
A story of immigration, childhood, betrayal, and love, INVISIBLE SISTER takes its viewers to the heart of deeply imbedded family secrets.
