Last year, local sculptor Michael Augustin created the awards for the Salem Film Festival.

For the jury selection, inspired by the festival’s logo, he created a metallic green projector, using recycled mixed media and auto paint.

This award went to In a Dream, a film by by Jeremiah Zagar about his father, the South Philly artist who has covered more than 50,000 square feet of the city with stunning mosaic murals.

For the second award, given by the audience, Augustin built an award based on the festival’s theme “Come to Salem, See the World.”

He used a rubber ball and bent masonite to replicate the planet Earth with a torn film ballot. This award went to Life.Support.Music, directed by Eric Daniel Metzgar, about the amazing story of guitarist Jason Crigler and his personal transformation.

This year, using a new set of fitting images, Augustin will unveil two new awards on the opening day of the festival.

“The Salem Film Festival is the kind of event where any artist would be proud to get involved,” says Augustin. “I love the idea of these world class, talented film artists receiving my work.”
